Australian High Commissioner visits IHM campus

14th of January, 2011 was a memorable day for Institute of Hospitality and Management when Excellency Mr. Peter N. Varghese, the High Commissioner of Australia to India visited the campus. Mr. Varghese was highly impressed with the state-of-the-art facilities at the Institute of Hospitality and Management. He closely interacted with the staff and enquired about the various courses, the fee structure and the placement initiatives being taken by the management. He was very pleased with the progress the students were making and appreciated their all round grooming. According to the High Commissioner, “The institute is well equipped with facilities to provide education in an important field. It will make a major contribution in increasing the hospitality manpower base of India.”

He also noted that students were fortunate to have access to education in an institute that has academic affiliation with HTMi, Switzerland, one of the leading institutes offering Hospitality and Management related courses. He also praised the infrastructure that matched the international standards. He stressed that the institute was singular in excellence and achievement in the region.

Hospitality Educator’s Workshop

IHM held the first Certified Hospitality Educator’s Workshop in Northern India from July 26-29/2010. Participants arrived from as far as Nepal and Sikkim participated. The final evening was hosted by the Directors of IHM with speeches by K.V. Simons, Vice-President American Hotel and Lodging Association, Capt. Sandeep Singh Sandhu CEO IHM and Special Guest Mr. Ramesh Takulia, Director of Learning and Development Taj Luxury Division.

Instructors of Hotel Management and Tourism Institutes who met the eligibility requirement participated in the program, including participants from oversees as well. This high profile event at the IHM was attended by parents and students as well. The top management of the Pearls Group was represented by Mr. Sikander Singh, Mr. KJS Toor, Mr. Harpartap Singh, Mr. M.L. Sehjpal, Mr. Harnam Singh and Mr. Anu Bansal. All were extremely impressed by the campus facilities.

IHM students visit Missionaries of Charity

Students from the institute visited the MOTHER TERESA, Missionaries of Charity (Sector 23-A, Chandigarh), home for the orphans, physically and mentally challenged children, old and destitutes. Students and the Faculty actively interacted with inmates and shared their experiences. The students learnt a lot on how less privileged sections of the society led their lives. They promised to return soon and strengthen the bondage with Missionaries of Charity Fraternity.

IHM students celebrate World Tourism Day

World Tourism Day was first celebrated on 27 Sept, 1980. It was established by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) as an annual day to foster awareness of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic values.

IHM students commemorated the World Tourism Day with gusto and enthusiasm. They visited Chandigarh Railway Station and Airport and welcomed the visitors with roses on this occasion. The students of the Institute also received a rare opportunity of welcoming renowned personalities as well. It would go a long way in students associated with hospitality and travel industry to shed ‘only-for-money attitude’.

Students visit Chandigarh Ashok

On 15th November, 2010, the IHM students paid a visit to the Chandigarh Ashok. They were accompanied by Mr. Mathew Sorensen, Principal and other faculty members. The students interacted with the staff of the hotel and learnt about the operations. They also observed the activities in various departments. IHM will be carrying out more such industry visits in near future.
