Four Seasons sets out to expand in India
Canadian hospitality major Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts is eyeing rapid expansion of hotel properties under its ambit in India. The company is looking at having its brand of 5-star hotels in Mumbai, Bangalore, NCR (national capital region), Goa, Rajasthan (Jaipur and other cities), Kerala and Agra over the next 3 years. The company has already forayed in the Mumbai and Bangalore markets and recently signed a contract for a luxury hotel in the NCR.
ITC Royal Gardenia - Green Hospitality
It’s not just the residential and commercial buildings that are going green, hospitality sector has also ventured on that path. And with that we are seeing ‘responsible luxury’ taking root in India. ITC’s Royal Gardenia hotel in Bangalore, was conferred the highest rating for green buildings in the world – the LEED India Platinum Rating. This not only places it among the top hotels in the world, but also makes it the largest platinum rated hotel, spreading across 6,00,000 sq ft.
Tourism jobs provide pathway to prosperity
Later this year, ground will be broken for a new Marriott Hotel in downtown Milwaukee. When the new hotel opens, it will employ between 175 and 200 full-time people. What kind of career path can people in the hospitality industry expect to take? According to the Marriott’s website, “Keep your options open, be flexible about your first role within the industry, and be willing to learn new skills. By staying open to all opportunities to get your foot in the door, you’ll gain experience in hospitality and will be able to demonstrate an understanding of how the business works.” In other words—the opportunities are limitless.
Hospitality salaries and jobs remain stable, reveals government data
Average weekly salaries in the UK hospitality industry were just under £300 a week in February 2011, while the number of jobs available in the last quarter has remained stable, according to data released today by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). There were 1.917m jobs in the hotel and foodservice industries in the last quarter of 2010 The ONS Labour Market Statistics April 2011 found a general decrease in unemployment in the UK as a whole, with a drop of 17,000 in the number of people out of work in the three months to February 2011.
